Have you ever gotten what you wanted only to find out that there’s grit in the gears? You end up frustrated, disappointed, disillusioned? It all seems meaningless. Marry the person of your dreams and find out that marriage isn’t all it’s cracked up to be? Make a whole lot of money and find out you have more problems instead of less?
Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. In other words, make him your primary goal, and then these other things will be given to you. When you he’s your number one goal, you have to let go of all of those dreams. That means planning your life as if none of them will come true. It means saying to God, “I’m going to trust you to make me happy without them.” Mourn them, and let them fly away. You will find that along with those dreams, your stresses and fears and worries fly away as well. You’ll have peace.
Once you’re happy without them, there is a pretty good chance he’ll give all those crazy dreams to you anyway (he did for me). He may have better ones for you and he’ll probably give you you even more than you imagined. After all, he has some pretty awesome plans for you. Another thing, he doesn’t give like the world gives. His gifts come without the grit.
