What do I want? James says I don’t get answers when I ask with wrong motives. Jesus, David and others say, ask with the right motives, I’ll get whatever I ask. Ask well and I get an answer with the power of heaven behind it.
I opened my mouth to answer, but lost my voice. I nodded and quickly turned away, wiping at the rush of tears. When I saw their little faces and heard their singsong voices, that gift felt like the most significant accomplishment of my life. I was proud and ashamed at the same time.
